open prompt #8
With more and more people being over weight, there now is a heavy reliant on weight loss surgeries. There are many different types of surgery out there that will help people loose the weight they can not loose on their own. There is a surgery that puts a band on your stomach limiting the amount of food you eat. This makes you less hungry which means you are not eating as much as you would normally eat. Along with making the stomach smaller, this surgery also slows down your metabolism making you feel full for a longer period of time. Yeah, this surgery sounds great, but there is one major downfall, its cost. It is very expensive to have the band put on your stomach, which means not as many people are in the range to have the surgery done who actually need it.

Open prompt # 7
Obesity is a problem that occurs when people eat more calories than what our body uses. A person who is considered obese, has a body weight of 20% higher than what the normal or average weight should be for a person that height and age. Besides just eating too much, there are many other factors that contribute to being obese. Age is a key contributor that affects your weight. As a person gets older, their bodies metabolism slows down which means you do not require as many calories per day. Many people do not realize this and continue to eat as many calories per day when they are 50 as they did when they were a young adult. Obesity is a leading preventable death in America, and it is one of the most serious public health problems. One of the biggest things that can help reduce the excess fat is exercise. That and less caloric intake are the leading contributors to what will help loose the fat and not be obese.

Open Prompt #6
Often times, people think that they are over weight when in reality they are normal and healthy. I know that this applies to girls more often than boys. Many women think they are fat which sometimes results in them ending up with an eating disorder. I know of many girls who are in perfectly good health and have a normal body weight who work extra hard at the gym daily and eat barely anything to try to become skinny. This I feel, is due to the unrealistic models in the magazines we read.
The American society is very corrupt. In the average magazine ad, the women models are always perfect and not normal. This gives girls the idea that that is what the desired look is. It is upsetting because people will go through harsh things to try to achieve the "perfect body."

Being obese or extremely overweight has many negative side effects. As people continue to eat and eat, their health levels continue to decrease. Many overweight adults will develop Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, asthma, along with a ton more harmful things. What many people don't realize is that every single one of those can be prevented if you are over weight. By simply, exercising and eating right. Obesity in America is a growing epidemic can can easily be prevented. In order to lose the excess luggage you are carrying around, you have to be motivated to get rid of it. Which in many cases, a lot of people simply are just too lazy.
To me, it is just sad when I see an over weight person who also has an over weight child. This can easily be prevented by giving the child nutritional food. Many parents will feed their children unhealthy food because the kid is being stubborn and only wants to eat chicken nuggets and french fries. American's need to get out of the habit of feeding their kids unhealthy foods and allowing them to snack on chips and candy constantly. One out of every three children in America is either obese or overweight. This statistic is unbelievable and it needs to be under-control and stopped immediately.

what "they say" about obesity
Even though being skinny is still the most desired look, being obese and overweight is not completely frowned upon. More people are now accepting obesity and studies have shown that the percentage of people who think overweight people are attractive has gone up. As stated in the article, about two-thirds of U.S. adults overweight, Americans seem more accepting of heavier body types. Even though the body image is judged constantly, more people do not care and do not mind being overweight. The view of obesity constantly changes and it seems like more people are accepting of obesity but still being skinny is most preferred. Fewer people are saying that overweight people are less attractive, and their body image is no longer being rejected.
People will say that they are ok with how they look if they are overweight, but still many of them have the want to be skinny. Often times, people who are overweight get teased and bullied throughout their lives, which is also a factor that makes them want to not be overweight. The concept of having a good body image will always be an obsession in America, its inevitable. It seems that more people are eating the unhealthy fast food and not exercising and they are just allowing their body image to become bad.

Lazy people
As my life goes on, I am constantly trying to eat healthier and exercise. For many Americans, that is the opposite. Over my life, portion sizes have become increasingly larger and larger. Obesity has become a huge problem that is harder and harder to end. It may not be that people are ordering the super-size at McDonald's or Burger King, but they are going there two to three times a week. Where I live, we have a food court that consists of six or seven different fast food restaurants and every weekday from 11:30 to 1:30 it is completely packed with people. It's sad because its the same people who go during the week.
As stated in the article, "60% of U.S. adults do not exercise enough and 25% of adults don't exercise at all," that is shocking. Americans are getting lazier and lazier and not doing any work. It is pathetic how high that percentage is. Now-a-days it seems like the kids are no longer going out side and playing games like "manhunt" or "tag", but just staying inside and playing video games and eating food. When I was a little kid none of my friends had video game consoles, but now if you ask any kid, its almost certain that they have some sort of video game system.

Obesity as a problem
To me, obesity has become a huge problem in our society. I've noticed that more and more people who are obese have become less interested in their body image. Even though there are many weight loss programs, may people do not participate or make an effort to loose their weight. I certainly am a person who cares about how I look and I watch what I eat.
I have noticed that many people do not care about their body image and that they are obese. We have a free gym that anyone at the university can go to. I know multiple over-weight people who have never taken advantage of the gym and do not care to either. Also, in our eating establishments, you can choose between something healthy, or something fattening and bad for you. More often than not, a larger person will be in line ordering the food that is bad for them rather than choosing the food that is healthy for them.
Eating healthy and exercising is something I have a strong opinion on which is why I chose to blog about this topic.
