Open prompt # 7
Obesity is a problem that occurs when people eat more calories than what our body uses. A person who is considered obese, has a body weight of 20% higher than what the normal or average weight should be for a person that height and age. Besides just eating too much, there are many other factors that contribute to being obese. Age is a key contributor that affects your weight. As a person gets older, their bodies metabolism slows down which means you do not require as many calories per day. Many people do not realize this and continue to eat as many calories per day when they are 50 as they did when they were a young adult. Obesity is a leading preventable death in America, and it is one of the most serious public health problems. One of the biggest things that can help reduce the excess fat is exercise. That and less caloric intake are the leading contributors to what will help loose the fat and not be obese.

I really think that this topic is a good topic to blog about. The problem of obesity is affecting more and more people every day, and as a society we can't seem to get it under contorl. You said that the solution is just to exercise more and to take in less calories, and I think that that solution seems so simple in theroy but is so diffucult for people to execute for some reason. Now I know that I am guilty of taking in too many calories and not exercising enough, but I just wish people would respect their bodies enough and stop obesity in its tracks... but sadly doing that is easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteObesity is a huge issue in America. I feel like not only should it be the individual's responsibility to take control of their but the things around them. For instance younger children don't necessarily know how to start getting healthy so I think it's a school's responsibility to teach them where to begin and how to stay healthy. Restaurants should cut back on the sizes of the portions they serve. Yes being healthy starts with the person but their environment should help support them and keep them on track.
